Ready to Paint Venice
Book published by Search Press came out in 2010, and was followed by two TV programs aired on Sky Painting and Drawing Channel 195, soon to be repeated and also out on DVD. The book covers paintings in step by step detail. There are main projects and other images. Exact locations given. Another book and TV program on painting light, texture and water will follow.

I have contributed to many other books and written and illustrated magazine articles for Artists & Illustrators, Painting World, Paint, and others.
I have produced work for encyclopaedias, part works and other publications, including the Channel 4 Watercolour Challenge TV series part work of the same name, now available in a book called "Watercolour Challenge techniques in Practice", published by Channel 4.

SEARCH PRESS BOOKS - http://www.searchpress.com/

I have learned my craft through many routes, one of which has been, and continues to be other author's books. The Search Press Leisure Arts Series is much loved not just by me, but by many other professional painters. A quarter of a century ago, these books helped me when I was turning professional. I recommend Search Press books to anyone wishing to develop, or even wanting to continue developing after having received widespread recognition.

If you are not sure where to begin - how about starting with William Newton's "Painting with Watercolours"?

I think Richard Bolton's Search Press titles are great. They are excellent for everything in watercolour with an added edge for texture, architecture and detail. For a broad brush approach try Arnold Lowry's "Starting to Paint". Geoff Kersey is another good landscape watercolourist, and an excellent find for Search. Just about all genres are covered. I have been enabled to give full coverage of technique by the in depth photography, and design of the books.

OTHER BOOKS

"Painting Landscape in Watercolour" Rowland Hilder. Published by Collins.
Fundamentals for all landscape watercolour. Method is unique, but principles apply to all painting. Best all round landscape watercolour book that I know of.

"Painting Weathered Textures in Watercolor" by Richard Bolton. Published by Watson Guptill.
Superb on colour mixes. Skies, trees, and landscape handled beautifully. Superb on effects - wood, iron, glass, rust, tyres, snow, bark, flowers, masonry, etc, etc, all with feeling. Contact Watson Guptill USA to see if you can get a copy. Inspirational. Anything else by Richard Bolton.

"Make Your Watercolours Sing". LaVere Hutchings. Published by David & Charles.
Sheer joy and vibrancy - everyday scenes apparently loosely thrown down by this happy elder statesman of watercolour. Simply explained.
